Dominican Republic - Summer 2022

What makes this program special? Get to know the Dominican Republic, a playground of tropical ecosystems and rich cultural history. While you’re immersed in the local heritage, you’ll gain insight into the issues impacting local girls today. Working together with local non-profits and community members, you’ll build sustainable solutions to the educational, social and economic challenges they face. Then take time to rejuvenate with relaxation of beachside yoga and adventures ranging from snorkeling to whitewater rafting. Available to girls ages 14 and up.

Germany, Italy & Switzerland - Summer 2022

What makes this program special? Encircling the Alps, each of these cities, towns, and villages inspires the imagination in its own unique way. The one-of-a-kind canals of Venice create a magical mood. The Black Forest in Germany evokes a world of Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Bavarian Munich proudly displays its folkloric traditions, while the dramatic mountain scenery of Adelboden sets an awe-inspiring tone. You will also make a special visit to Our Chalet, the oldest of the five WAGGGS Centres, located in the splendid Swiss Alps.  We have also added a Paris extension to the trip.  Available to girls ages 14 and up.

Savannah, Georgia - Summer 2022

Travel volunteers are needed. If interested, view the Lead Travel Volunteer description or Support Travel Volunteer description and apply online by October 1, 2021.


Experience the southern charm and exquisite architecture of Savannah, one of the oldest cities in America. See brilliantly restored neighborhoods filled with stately old mansions and Victorian homes. Discover hidden gardens and old plantations, and visit the Girl Scout First Headquarters and Juliette Gordon Low’s Birthplace-all as you experience the beauty of Savannah.

Important:

  • Registration for the trip includes all activities in Savannah, Georgia.
  • All participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Savannah, GA. We will meet at the Savannah Hilton Head International Airport at a specified time on the day of arrival and will be brought back to that airport on day of departure. 
  • If participants are traveling another way, please contact Amy at atwedell@gsdakotahorizons.org for arrangements/plans.

Adult/Girl Price: $800.00 Includes: Activities, hotel, transportation in Savannah, meals, t-shirt, and patch

  • $100 deposit required at time of registration with final payment due by 5/22/2022.
  • Adults registering for this opportunity must be approved volunteers.

Starting in 1915 and every few years since then, delegates from every council across the nation and USA Girl Scouts Overseas have met to discuss, debate, and vote on issues important to the Girl Scout Movement and elect national leaders for the next triennium. In 2020, approximately 1,200 delegates, including several hundred girl members aged 14–17, represented their councils. They elected a new National Board, including a new National President, Karen P. Layng, and, spent hours deliberating on each proposal that was up for debate.

Girl Scout Destinations through GSUSA

Check out Girl Scout Destinations, the ultimate adventure program for girls ages 11 and older. With a ton of different trips to apply for every year—from surfing camp on the east coast and breathtaking hikes out west, to the crazy-cool wonder of new cultures abroad—there’s something amazing for everyone to experience.

You can apply for up to four Destinations trips! Use this Application Worksheet to prepare for your online Destinations Application. The online application cannot be stopped and returned to once started. A seperate application with a unique essay for each trip needs to be submitted. 

Our council offers scholarships for up to 20% of the Destinations trip cost for as long as funds are available. Applications for scholarship must be submitted at the same time as the trip application. Destinations scholarship requests are reviewed as they are submitted and will be rewarded as funds are available.

Leaders, as soon as you decide to start planning a trip, read  Volunteer Essentials for general guidelines and the  Safety Activity Checkpoints to learn more about activities girls may want to participate in on their trip. 

Once your plans are set;  Let Us Know You’re On the GO!!! Complete the Travel Application and submit it at least two weeks prior to your trip. 

Don’t forget to plan in advance if you’re doing a high-risk or high-Adventure activity, and find out what you’ll need to make it an amazing and safe experience!!  For trips longer than 2 nights, additional insurance is required and needs to be purchased through the council. Please contact our Girl Experience Manager for more information.
