You shine brightest when you’re making the world a better place. That’s why you can earn three separate awards—the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards—as you dream of a better tomorrow and take action in big ways today.
Daisies and Brownies learn the basics of what it means to be a good
neighbor and how they can help others. This gives them the foundation
they’ll need to earn the Bronze Award
.
Juniors earn the Bronze Award
by teaming up with other Girl Scouts to make a difference in
their communities.
Cadettes earn the Silver Award by researching an issue, making a plan to address it, and then taking action to improve their communities.
Seniors and Ambassadors earn the Gold Award —the highest award in Girl Scouting—by developing and carrying out lasting solutions to issues in their neighborhoods and beyond. Gold Award Girl Scouts truly are the world changers, rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes we all look up to. Plus, they’re amazing candidates for colleges, scholarships, competitive internship programs, and exciting careers.
Final reports are due each year on February 1 for spring recognition at Honoring Excellence.
Take Action Projects
The Highest Awards are leadership awards for Take Action projects that address the root cause of a community issue with a sustainable and measurable solution. Do you know the difference between a community service project and a Take Action project?
Girl Scout Highest Awards must include a Take Action project that addresses the root cause of a community issue while actively working with the community for a sustainable and measurable solution. Community service projects are important as they address an immediate need in the community, however, they only help for a short period. A Take Action project is lasting and creates long-term change.
Take Action projects have up to five elements. The Gold Award requires all five; the Girl Scout Silver Award requires three; and the Girl Scout Bronze Award requires two. This way, Girl Scouts learn something new and have opportunities to be challenged in different ways as they earn each award.
