Pack your bags! We’re going on an adventure.

When you plan your own Girl Scout trip—whether it’s Brownies packing their first weekend bag or Seniors boarding a plane to check out Girl Scout history in Savannah, Georgia—you’ll build courage, confidence, and lifelong skills like organization, time management, and how to work as team to succeed when things don’t go as planned.

You’ll also build connections outside your own community and make memories to last a lifetime.

Wherever you’re looking to travel—even to countries around the world—Girl Scouts can get you there.

GSUSA Destinations | On Going toggle arrow

This information pertains to destination trips offered through GSUSA. This scholarship does not apply to Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons travel.

Girl Scout Destinations are the ultimate adventure for individual Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Push past your comfort zone by applying for a trip on your own, and make friends from all over the country as you travel with new Girl Scout friends. There’s a unique, life-changing experience for everyone.

Destinations open each year on August 1 and fill up quickly, so get your application in before November 15. Trips that still have space after the deadline will accept applications on a rolling basis until fill.

Scholarships for Destinations may be available. See the event listings for availability.

How to Get Started

  1. Find a trip.
  2. Complete the application worksheet which is located at the bottom of the page of each travel listing.
The online application cannot be stopped and returned to once started. Use this worksheet to ensure you have all the information needed BEFORE you start.
  3. Submit an application.
Using Dakota Dough for Travel Opportunities toggle arrow

Dakota Dough may be sumitted as payment for girl fees to attend GSDH travel opportunities and GSUSA Destinations.

Make a Payment with Dakota Dough
Complete the Dakota Dough Payment Form, enclose the Dakota Dough and remit to council. Council will remit payment to the hosting company prior to the final payment deadline. Dakota Dough is due to council 90 days prior to that deadline. All fields on form must be completed before being processed. Dakota Dough submissions will be sent to the hosting company as payment on account. Dakota Dough reimbursements will only be issued after the trip has been paid in full and a statement showing the trip has been paid in full has been provided.

Dakota Dough Extensions
Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons does make a few exceptions in which expired Dakota Dough can be extended for program opportunities including GSUSA Destinations, National Council Sessions, GSDH sponsored travel opportunities and GSDH camps.

A request to extend Dakota Dough's expiration date may be requested prior to the printed expiration date via the Dakota Dough Expiration Date Extension Form. Approval of the form from the council's Leadership Team is needed to grant a Dakota Dough extension.

This request must include:

  • Dollar amount requested
  • Date of extension
  • Reason for request and specific intended use of Dakota Dough

The Girl Scout assumes full responsibility to hold the Dakota Dough and the correspondence granting the extension until the intended use. Dakota Dough cannot be extended beyond 5 years of printed date.

Travel Progression toggle arrow

Through progression, Girl Scouts build skills to become lifelong travelers and global citizens. Girl Scouts take the lead in planning a new adventure at every level. Progression allows girls to learn the skills they need to become competent travelers, including how to plan and budget future trips.

  • Progression Chart: Travel (PDF)

Girls should have experience at every level of the progression before moving up. For regional trips, girls must be Juniors or older. For national or international trips, girls must be Cadettes or older (except for council-sponsored “supervision-required” trips).

When moving up to the next step, consider each Girl Scouts’ independence, ability to work well in groups, flexibility, and experience with cultures other than their own.

Take a road trip—and stay with Girl Scouts!

There are so many amazing places to explore across the U.S., and there are Girl Scout properties near so many of them! Whether you’re looking for a troop house in a cool, small city, or a campsite in the beautiful wilderness, there are Girl Scout places waiting for your group.

Use this interactive map to explore Girl Scout properties—and contact the site to learn more. Once you have your Girl Scout accommodations booked, use the “Travel in the USA” guide below to plan the rest of your trip.
