Adventure of a Lifetime: Girl Scouts Explore Australia and New Zealand
For 12 unforgettable days, 32 travelers from Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, exploring the breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife, and rich cultures of New Zealand and Australia.
Girl Scouts soared above stunning scenery on skyline gondolas, raced one another down the mountainside on luge tracks, and snorkeled in the crystal-clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Every stop offered new opportunities to learn and explore.
Beyond the adventure, the trip gave Girl Scouts the chance to experience cultures and traditions firsthand. In New Zealand, they toured a Maori village, learning about the history, customs, and traditions of the local people. In Cairns, they visited an Aboriginal Cultural Center, where they gained a deeper appreciation for Australia's First Nations culture through storytelling, art, and cultural demonstrations.
For many of the Girl Scouts, the journey was about much more than visiting new places. Traveling internationally encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, build friendships with others from across the council, and gain confidence as they navigated new experiences together.
“It’s such a big trip that not a lot of people get to take,” Girl Scout Maddi M. shared. “Even doing it with Girl Scouts and people I didn’t already know, just going out of my comfort zone; I love it. It’s something I’ll definitely remember for the rest of my life.”
For these 32 travelers, Australia and New Zealand weren't simply destinations. They became classrooms, playgrounds, and places where courage, curiosity, and confidence grew with every new adventure.
