Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Emily Gilbertson of Jamestown, ND for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Emily earned her Gold Award with her A Better Vision for Everyone Project. With sights set on increasing awareness around blindness and low vision, Emily hosted a day camp for Girl Scouts. She partnered with a North Dakota School of the Blind team member to give those in attendance a better understanding of what it means to be blind or have low vision. Emily showed the girls how to write with braille and different tools available to help people with low vision.
Emily will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 10, 2023.
Since 1916, Girl Scouts have been making meaningful, sustainable change in their communities and around the world. The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, acknowledges the power behind each Gold Award Girl Scout’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself but also to making the world a better place for others. These young women are courageous leaders and visionary change-makers. They are our future, and it looks bright!
