Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Jojo Townsend of Lincoln, ND for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Jojo earned her Gold Award by completing her Education for Mental Health in Higher Institutions of Learning Project. For this project, she wanted to introduce additional support for students dealing with mental health issues in middle school and high school. Jojo noticed there was an abundance of support for elementary school students, but there was a need for additional support for older students. To address this issue, she assembled mental health toolboxes for students to use. The boxes were then given to local schools for students to use as needed.
Jojo will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 9, 2024.
Since 1916, Girl Scouts have been making meaningful, sustainable change in their communities and around the world. The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, acknowledges the power behind each Gold Award Girl Scout’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself but also to making the world a better place for others. These young women are courageous leaders and visionary change-makers. They are our future, and it looks bright!
