Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Mackenzie Krava of Fergus Falls, MN for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Mackenzie earned her Gold Award with her Bee and Butterfly Habitat Project. Focused on the effects of climate change, her goal was to introduce additional native Minnesota plants to the area that pollinators can use for their habitats. Mackenzie worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to secure a grant for project funding. After acquiring a few fields, she got to work tilling, planting, and monitoring the area. A few months of hard work later, the native plants blossomed, and pollinators started inhabiting the area.
Mackenzie will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 10, 2023.
