Girl Scouts Explore the Big Apple
Forty Girl Scouts, volunteers, and family members from the Thief River Falls Service Unit spent some time in June exploring one of the world's most iconic cities during their sixth group travel adventure, New York City.
The group packed their itinerary with unforgettable experiences, visiting landmarks including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. They also took in The Lion King on Broadway, crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, explored Girl Scout Central, shopped in Times Square, and even made time for ice cream along the way.
"We didn't waste a minute in our travels," said troop leader Sara Olson. "Everyone brought so much energy and curiosity to every single stop, ready to explore, learn, and make memories to last a lifetime."
Beyond the sightseeing, the trip gave Girl Scouts opportunities to grow as leaders.
"The best part of this trip was having our older girls show their confidence in helping out with navigating and guiding other travelers," Olson said. "Watching them grow as we've traveled across the country and to other countries has been amazing."
Travel is one of the many ways Girl Scouts build confidence, independence, and leadership while discovering new places and cultures. For the Thief River Falls Service Unit, this New York City adventure created lasting memories and inspired even more journeys to come.
