Over Labor Day weekend, Girl Scout Troop 20602 from Ada, MN, had an unforgettable opportunity—they took center court as the Color Guard at a Minnesota Lynx WNBA game!
Troop Leader Bonnie shared how the adventure began: “In working on a way for our Juniors and Cadettes to earn their GirlSports patch, I reached out to the Lynx to see what we could do to attend a game. Within conversations with their staff, our troop was invited to participate in the Sept. 1 game against the Dallas Wings as the Color Guard.”
Nine Girl Scouts from Troop 20602 made the trip from Ada to Minneapolis for the big day, and they proudly presented the colors in front of thousands of cheering fans. “The girls did AMAZING! They took so much pride in being the Color Guard,” Bonnie said.
The experience didn’t stop there. The girls got a special behind-the-scenes tour of Target Center, met the Lynx mascot, enjoyed sideline seats, and cheered on the home team to a big win. To top it off, each Girl Scout received a patch from the Lynx team along with their official GirlSports patch to wear on their sashes.
For many of the girls, it was their first trip to the Twin Cities and their first time at a professional sporting event. “Most of our girls have never been to the Cities or to a live game,” Bonnie shared. “It was quite the experience for everyone involved. I cannot wait to get to do this again in the years to come and watch our Daisies and Brownies grow into the opportunity to join us.”
The night was truly one to remember. As Bonnie summed it up: “It was, to say the least, an amazing evening for our Ada Girl Scouts.”
