Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Elena Boehm of West Fargo, ND for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Elena earned her Gold Award with her project - My Very Important Job. For this project, she wrote a children’s book explaining different medical devices and the various purposes they serve. The book features stories and photos from real people ages eight months to 81 years old. She hopes introducing children to medical devices early in life will allow them to be more accepting of peers who use such devices. Elena’s book has been donated to nearby schools and is currently available on Amazon.
Her accomplishments reflect leadership, citizenship, and foundational skills built through Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts helped me build confidence in my communication skills. Selling cookies, speaking at Girl Scout award ceremonies, and reaching out to leaders of organizations to earn many of my awards helped me become a better speaker,” Elena said.
Elena is a senior at Sheyenne High School with plans to attend the University of North Dakota for a degree in music education. She will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 9, 2024.
