Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Gabriela Morales of Sioux Falls, SD for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Gabriela earned her Gold Award with her Supporting the Rainbow Project: Creating Brave Spaces. For this project, Gabriela aimed to address the need for safe spaces for LBGTQ+ youth, teens, and young adults in the Sioux Falls area. She worked to implement safe space events, like peer-led support groups, Friday Fun Nights, campouts, and more.
Her accomplishments reflect leadership, citizenship, and foundational skills built through Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts taught me many things and provided me with experiences I would never have. Girl Scouts taught me to step out of my comfort zone and speak publicly. For someone who is shy, this is a great achievement,” Gabriela said.
Gabriela is a freshman at Augustana University, majoring in Fine Arts. She will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 9, 2024.
