Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Jessalyn F. of Aberdeen, SD for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Jessalyn earned her Gold Award with her Survival in the Community Project. For this project, she taught children, from kindergarten to seniors in high school, the skills needed to survive in natural disasters. The middle and high school students participated in four two-hour classes with guest speakers. The younger children completed one three-hour session. Jessalyn worked with the Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, Aberdeen Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and other local first responders to help conduct her classes.
Her accomplishments reflect leadership, citizenship, and foundational skills built through Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts has left an impact in my life for helping people and my community! Girl Scouts has also taught me to conquer my fears,” said Jessalyn.
Jessalyn is a senior at Central High School with plans to attend Dakota Wesleyan University to study criminal justice. She will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 9, 2024.
