Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons congratulates Milla Weigel of Bismarck, ND for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award to be achieved in Girl Scouts.
Milla earned her Gold Award with her Youth Book Club Project. After noticing that an interest in books was on the decline with area youth, she created a weekly book club. This gave kids a chance to come together and share their love of books. It also helped those involved build relationships with the other members. The book club has continued to gain new members since its first meeting.
Her accomplishments reflect leadership, citizenship, and foundational skills built through Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts has been meaningful to me because it teaches me to be a leader and go after my goals,” Mills said. “To receive the Gold Award means that what I have done for my community has really made an impression and change to the people around me.”
Milla is graduating this month and plans to attend the University of Mary. She will receive her award at the council’s Honoring Excellence recognition event to be held on June 10, 2023.
