Girl Scout Norah Foreman Receives 2023 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship
Girl Scout Norah Foreman has been selected to receive the 2023 Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) Gold Award Scholarship in the amount of $10,000.
The GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship recognizes one outstanding Gold Award Girl Scout per council. Norah was selected because her project exemplifies the core components of the Gold Award, and she demonstrated extraordinary leadership to drive lasting change in her community and beyond.
"Your outstanding Gold Award project, "Giving Back to the Prairie," demonstrates measurable and sustainable impact and addresses an issue of national significance, proving that Girl Scouts of courage, confidence, and character truly do make the world a better place. Your accomplishment will endure for generations to come and serve as a powerful example of Girl Scouting in action," stated Bonnie Barczykowski, GSUSA CEO.
Giving Back to the Prairie
Norah earned her Gold Award with her Giving Back to the Prairie Project. For this project, her goal was to help boost the local Trumpeter Swan population and to inspire conservation efforts in others. To accomplish this, Norah built and installed a floating nest platform for Trumpeter Swans at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center in Fergus Falls. She also created an educational video about her project and the history of the Minnesota Trumpeter Swan conservation efforts.
Her accomplishments reflect leadership, citizenship, and foundational skills built through Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts has been a part of my life for many years, and I believe it has profoundly impacted my life. I formed lifelong friendships and I have had so many truly amazing experiences that never would have happened had it not been for Girl Scouts,” Norah said.
Norah is currently a student at Montana State University. She is working toward a degree in conservation biology and ecology. She hopes to one day work to protect endangered plant and animal species.
