Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons recently participated in Southeast Technical College’s 8th Grade Exploration Days, an interactive career exploration event for Sioux Falls area students. The coordinated program gives 8th graders the opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways through rotating, 25-minute, hands-on presentations led by local businesses and organizations, including Sanford, Weller Brothers, ISG, Avera, and more. Each day, nearly 100 students took part in the experience.
Christine Griebel, Director of STEM Experiences, and Mia Ouma, Development Manager, represented Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons during the two-day event, leading an interactive robotics session for participating students. They introduced students to Girl Scouts and shared how the organization prepares girls for future STEM careers, including careers that do not yet exist.
Students then worked in pairs with Sphero robots, putting problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills into action through hands-on activities.
